La Perico 2027 (Clásica Pedro Delgado): how to prepare it and what to eat on each climb
The next edition is on Sunday 27 June 2027 (provisional date: the organisers haven't confirmed it yet; in 2026 it was held on 28 June), starting in Segovia (the Aqueduct, Spain) at 8:00. Here you have the route of La Perico Gran Fondo and La Perico Fondo, its climbs, the usual weather and how much to eat and drink for your target time.
La Perico Gran Fondo: route and profile
| Climb | Where | Length | Gain | Average grade | Top |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Puerto de Navacerrada | km 0–28 | 28.2 km | +863 m | 3.1 % | 1,850 m |
| Puerto de la Morcuera | km 52–65 | 13.3 km | +652 m | 4.9 % | 1,776 m |
| Puerto de Canencia | km 74–82 | 8.2 km | +373 m | 4.6 % | 1,521 m |
| Puerto de Navafría | km 97–116 | 19.3 km | +743 m | 3.9 % | 1,773 m |
Route keys
- The start is neutralised from the Aqueduct to La Granja (km 11): find your place and don't waste energy; timing starts there.
- Navacerrada (1,860 m, km 28) comes right at the start and in the cold: it's long, so pace yourself and don't follow the bunch.
- Morcuera (km 65) and Canencia (km 82) come almost back to back: eat in the Rascafría valley before the Morcuera; there is a full feed station at the top.
- Navafría (km 116.5) is the long climb at the end: get there with your eating done. There is a full feed station at the top.

La Perico Gran Fondo: what to eat and drink
How much a typical rider (72 kg) needs depending on their time. From 2–3 hours on, what matters most is eating carbs regularly (every 20–30 minutes) and drinking before you're thirsty.
| Total time | Carbs per hour | Total carbs | Drink per hour | Total drink | Sodium per hour |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 5 h | 75 g/h | 300 g | 650 ml/h | 3.2 l | 450 mg/h |
| 6 h | 75 g/h | 375 g | 650 ml/h | 3.9 l | 600 mg/h |
| 7 h | 75 g/h | 445 g | 650 ml/h | 4.6 l | 600 mg/h |
| 8 h | 75 g/h | 515 g | 650 ml/h | 5.2 l | 600 mg/h |
More than 60–90 g of carbs per hour only if you've trained it. Don't try on race day what you haven't tolerated in training.
Section by section between feed stations (for about 6 h)
At the feed stations (km 65, 82, 116, 138) you stop, eat something and refill your bottles (the ones at km 82 and 138 only have drinks). But what matters most is what you take on the move until the next one: this table tells you how much. You can pick it up at the station or carry your own gels and bars; what matters is spreading it out, not eating it all at once when you stop.
| Section | Duration | Carbs to take in the section | Drink in the section |
|---|---|---|---|
| km 0 → 65 | 2 h 47 | 210 g | 1,800 ml |
| km 65 → 82 | 0 h 37 | 45 g | 400 ml |
| km 82 → 116 | 1 h 21 | 100 g | 900 ml |
| km 116 → 138 | 0 h 31 | 40 g | 350 ml |
| km 138 → 164 | 0 h 44 | 55 g | 450 ml |
The key section is the first one: there's no feed station until km 65, so you leave Segovia with full bottles and about 210 g of carbs on you (for example, 5 gels and a bar).
Not going to take 6 h? In WinWatts you set your target time and the feed stations, and you see these sections with your real pace on each climb. You can also compare scenarios: what changes if you go faster or slower.
